Congratulations and Thank You for choosing Paula Fish Photography to photograph the most fleeting stage of your child's life... the first few weeks.

Below, is information pertaining to a newborn session at our studio. It is my hope that you will find this information helpful as you prepare for our session together.
If you have anymore questions, please don't hesitate to ask.

If at all possible please feed your baby before you arrive so that he or she has a full tummy. I know this can be tricky for lengthy travels & that is ok if we need to start the session with a feeding.
Please don't panic if you are running behind, I generally allow plenty of time & understand a new baby can make it tricky to get where you're going on time. If you are breastfeeding, please avoid caffeine the morning of or bring a bottle or two of pumped milk, as caffeine can have an affect on baby, whether it's wakefulness or upset tummy. Gas drops are recommended to bring as well, especially if baby is adjusting to a new formula or has been extra fussy in the last 24 hours.

Also, please bring baby in little to no clothes and loosen diaper, then wrap your baby in a blanket Weather permitting, of course. You may also bring baby in a very simple onsie, sleep sack or an easy to remove solid outfit. Otherwise, your baby may get upset at being undressed when they were so cozy.  I do like to photograph a newborn mostly in our styled wraps or little to no clothes, so several pieces from their wardrobe are not necessary. If you would like an outfit for them to be photographed in, please bring them in it. I do have have a variety of up-cylced outfits relative to my style that can be used.  However, please note that many clothing changes may make your little one upset & we want him/her as calm & sleepy as possible.

Please know that there is no rush with a newborn session. I like to give special attention to each client, especially newborn sessions. Baby is certainly in control. Please know that I do not mind waiting for you to nurse/feed, change, or taking a break to soothe your baby. I am a Mom of 5 & have been photographing newborns for over 8 years so I know that each one is different & not every session is the same. I do keep the studio very warm in order to keep baby as comfortable & sleepy as possible.

When doing the poses where the baby is undressed, it is normal (& Okay!) for him or her to "relieve" him or herself on my backdrop...or anywhere else. I can assure you this happens a lot and I am not upset or offended. After each newborn session I am sure to launder all of my items that come in contact with baby.  Please bring baby wipes, extra diapers, burp cloth & a pacifier, even if baby doesn't generally take one, it does help distract them during certain poses.

Please note cameras and other recording devices are not permitted during your session.

If siblings are involved in the session, please bring something for them to do while they are not being photographed. This will help keep Baby & Mom calm during your session. This is a fantastic experience to be able to save those beautiful moments that escape us all too fast.

I have an ample variety of props to complete your session artistically, however, I do encourage each new Mom to bring something significant to make your session special. (If Mom or Dad have a profession you would like to incorporate, an item from the nursery, sports fans, hunting or even something from a Grandma or Grandpa, etc.)

Lastly, I take great pride in my brand and artistic vision & appreciate your faith in me to leave you swooning over these sweet images long after those tiny feet start walking. I do not mind recreating images that I have taken over the years, I have a beautiful gallery on Instagram. I can be found by searching @paulafishphotographynewborns, but please don't bring a list of images from Pinterest.
